Carlos Suastegui

"New York state of mind"

At the age of 18 Mr. Suastegui left Chicago for New York City to pursue a career in Architecture. After 5 years of the most demanding and competitive period of his life, Mr. Suastegui earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree with a concentration in construction management, from the New York Institute of Technology; School of Architecture & Design. At NYIT, he was awarded design honor student two years in a row and was a teaching assistant for second semester design. Prior to his architectural education he spent three years with a full service construction company as a trade’s laborer doing residential remodeling projects.

During his last three years at NYIT, he was an intern and later promoted to junior designer for LVA Architects in New York City, where he assisted the project architects in the design of commercial projects such as, Chase Manhattan Bank, Independence Community Bank, Citibank, Prudential, and Greenpoint bank.

Soon after a short stint with hotel Architect William Tabler, Mr. Suastegui was employed by RG Architects. While there, he focused on small but special commercial and residential design projects where he was the designer and project manager. It was there, that he designed a prototype store for a franchise in Atlanta, which was featured on the cover of Checklist magazine. Upon arriving back to Chicago, Mr. Suastegui as an independent consultant had been designing/managing Kitchen and Bathroom projects for one of the largest showrooms in Chicago’s merchandise mart. During this time, Mr. Suastegui managed the installation of an architectural gem. The unique Chicago residence has been featured numerous times in books, newspapers and design magazines. By the end of 2005, Mr. Suastegui had re-launched Spacelab and has surrounded himself with a group of professionals that have the same passion he does. Today, Spacelab is a unique company providing design, construction and very soon real estate consulting services.

Mr. Suastegui is married and resides with his wife and son in Chicago.
